Former mayor Burl W. Griffith honored posthumously
State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) presented House Resolution 794 to the widow, Audrey Griffith, and daughter, Tori Lorene Griffith, of former Dieterich Mayor Burl Wayne Griffith on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in a ceremony at the Dieterich Civic Center. Mr. Griffith passed away at the age of 74 on March 31 in Harlingen, Texas with funeral services held April 10 at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center and burial in the Dieterich Village Cemetery.

Niemerg's fishing derby sees successful second year at Sam Parr Lake
The 2nd Annual Fishing Derby at Sam Parr Lake, organized by Niemerg, concluded successfully on July 20, 2024. Derik was recognized for catching the largest fish of the event, a 17-inch Channel Catfish. Despite it being his only catch of the morning, it earned him notable recognition. Connor was acknowledged for catching the most fish during the event, with a total of 13.

Illinois Route dedicated as "Lieutenant Jared Southworth Memorial Highway
On Saturday, July 6, 2024, nearly 250 people gathered to dedicate a section of Illinois Route 133 through the town of Oakland as the “Lieutenant Jared Southworth Memorial Highway.” House Joint Resolution 39, sponsored by Rep. Adam Niemerg and Rep. Chris Miller in the House and Sen. Chapin Rose in the Senate, designated this highway section in Southworth’s honor.

Bill passes honoring fallen soldier with memorial highway
State Representatives Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) and Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) have successfully passed House Joint Resolution 39, designating a section of Illinois Route 133 in Oakland as the “Lieutenant Jared W. Southworth Memorial Highway.” This designation honors Lt. Southworth's service and sacrifice to his community and the United States. Lt. Southworth, a part-time police officer in Oakland, was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.
