Illinois may face a clash of policies under the incoming Trump administration and its own Democrat-led government. The potential conflict arises from differing approaches to immigration enforcement and sanctuary city policies.

The state of Illinois currently prohibits local and state law enforcement from aiding federal agencies in enforcing federal immigration laws. Additionally, Illinois allocates taxpayer funds to provide healthcare coverage for non-citizens, a measure that has cost taxpayers over $1 billion, with expenses projected to rise.

President-elect Donald Trump has prioritized mass deportations and aims to end policies that support mass migration. One method being considered is the restriction of federal grant dollars to enforce these changes.

"Illinois could be at the center of conflicting agendas under a Trump presidency and Democrat-controlled state," reads an analysis by Greg Bishop from The Center Square.
