Pritzker is set to testify before Congress on May 15, 2025, regarding his policies on sanctuary cities and aiding illegal immigrants. This announcement comes amid calls from sections of Illinois' population who are dissatisfied with his stance on immigration-related issues and taxpayer-funded services for non-citizens.

Representative James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, has expressed his concerns about Governor J.B. Pritzker's policies. They demand an explanation for what they see as prioritizing the safety and welfare of illegal immigrants over Illinois citizens. "Who elected you?" was a pointed remark directed at Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who, like Pritzker, supports the "Welcoming City" ordinance, which Mayor Johnson insists makes "all Chicagoans safer."

State Representative Chris Miller has criticized Governor Pritzker's policies, linking them to what he perceives as increased crime rates in Illinois. “Between illegal criminals and the so-called SAFE-T Act, Illinois residents are less safe in their communities because of pro-criminal policies enacted by Governor Pritzker," Miller asserted.

Adding to the controversy, an audit report identified that Illinois' non-citizen healthcare programs have exceeded initial cost estimates. Furthermore, the topic of immigration received significant attention as an immigration group reportedly received over $63 million in taxpayer funds over seven months.

While Pritzker has yet to decide on whether he will engage in the congressional discussions, his policies have undoubtedly sparked both local and national debate.
