Chris Miller, an Illinois state representative for House District 101, has called for Governor J.B. Pritzker to demonstrate stronger leadership and take action against illegal immigrants who pose a threat to public safety.

"Trump and Homan are keeping their promise to put American citizens first and round-up violent illegal immigrant gang members," said Chris G. Miller, State Representative for 101st District (R), according to Facebook. "Pritzker, the very people you represent want you to grow a backbone and take action against illegal immigrants who compromise public safety."

Over recent months, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested several individuals allegedly involved in a mass shooting that occurred on December 2 at a Chicago house party. The incident resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries, as reported by The Center Square. Ricardo Granadillo Padilla, a 25-year-old Venezuelan national, was apprehended in Raleigh, North Carolina, on February 8. He had been sentenced for illegal entry after crossing into the United States unlawfully in 2022 and is currently held in federal custody. Edward Martinez Cermeno, aged 24 and also from Venezuela, was detained in January by ICE Homeland Security Investigations in Chicago along with Border Patrol agents at the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Schaumburg office. He entered the U.S. illegally near Eagle Pass, Texas, in 2023 and faces charges of illegal entry while remaining in federal custody.

According to an ABC7 report, when Martinez Cermeno was taken into custody in January, he allegedly possessed a pistol and ammunition. At the time of his arrest in Chicago, he resided with his girlfriend’s parents. ICE said that during the raid, agents seized multiple firearms, high-capacity magazines, narcotics, and fraudulent documents. Initially ordered released on January 28, Martinez Cermeno was subsequently taken back into custody shortly thereafter.

The house party where Martinez Cermeno and Granadillo Padilla are accused of shooting eight people and killing three took place on December 2 in Gage Park. According to Block Club Chicago, attendees had gathered for a birthday celebration when an altercation erupted in the basement and escalated into a mass shooting.

Miller was first elected to the Illinois State House of Representatives in 2019. An Illinois native and third-generation cattle farmer and grain operator from Hindsboro, he holds an associate degree in agriculture from Lake Land College as well as a Bachelor of Science in Education.
