The Arcola Carnegie Public Library met in January to approve various repairs and replacement staff.
To catch up on reports, repairs, safety and business developments, the board of trustees for the Arcola Carnegie Public Library met Jan. 11 at the 407 E. Main St. branch building.
Minutes and financial reports from previous meetings were approved with minor corrections to the minutes, along with authorization to pay bills.
Trustee Jeff Saunders conveyed gratitude from the local food pantry for the library’s previous Food for Fines contribution.
Robert Arrol reviewed his findings regarding the library’s contract options with Otis Elevator. After brief discussion, it was decided to continue with the current contract and then renegotiate or bid for alternative coverage when the policy expires, with the understanding that the board would notify Otis in such an event.
Since the board last convened, a certificate of exemption was filed with the Douglas County Supervisor of Assessments. Fire extinguishers were deemed safe upon inspection. John Poorman submitted an estimate for repairs to the roof, for a leak. The board approved the estimate in the amount of $3,400; Arrol was designated to contact Lindenmeyer’s for a possible insurance claim.
In new business, the board announced that a custodian had resigned, opening the position up for a newcomer and requiring associated tasks, such as reviewing and posting the position.
