With his family present, Greg Boldt accepted an Above and Beyond Award from Cumberland CUSD #77 VP Ben Bland at the Cumberland CUSD #77’s meeting on Jan. 21. 

“We’d like to recognize Greg Boldt with the Above and Beyond Award,” Bland said.

He also welcomed numerous visitors, including Greg, Melissa, Ian, Jaxon and Jenna Boldt.

“Greg volunteered to be the Voice of the Raiders,” Bland said. “We appreciate his time and support of our school and students. It is a great honor for me to present this award to a person who has impacted the community and me, Greg Boldt.”

High school news from Kevin Maynard included notices of testing, conferences and holidays. He noted that current extracurricular activities center on boys and girls basketball teams, who are mid-season, and summarized tournament schedules. Wrestling and Scholastic Bowl updates were also offered.

Basketball figured into middle school news, with seventh and eighth grade boys’ teams excelling. Middle school pupils demonstrating good grades, attendance and behavior enjoyed an afternoon dodge ball tournament on Jan. 8.

Rep. Stacy Keyser thanked the team of community members. Girls’ volleyball and a school production of “Bye Bye Birdie” are in high gear, she said, additionally announcing an upcoming blood drive and reporting on a community service project to help provide shoes to children in Uganda. Keyser reported that she had reviewed test scores with each student, setting goals.

“It was great to have contact with each and every kid in the middle school,” she said. “I look forward to seeing our kids show progress … again this semester.”

In elementary school news, Daniel Huffman disclosed that 32 youngsters earned a pizza party for excellent performance and Jump-Rope/Hoops for Heart would be held again this year. He went on to praise the staff’s flexibility.

“I am very proud of the many accomplishments that we made during the first semester,” Huffman said.

Superintendent Todd Butler reviewed next month's action and informational items, plus executive discussion topics. Board member Bob Blade announced that the Continuous Improvement Committee had met and would reconvene Jan. 25 to review recent survey results, noting that policy updates involved legal and liability word changes.

Action items approved wrestling team and student council field trips, school psychologist services and a PRESS policy update.

The school board also approved previous meeting minutes, financial and budget reports, invoices and a list of substitutes. The meeting concluded by approving the general consent agenda.
