Twelve local artists were honored at the annual art contest hosted by SBL Bonutti Clinic in collaboration with the Effingham Art Guild and Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. The event, which included a reception and business after-hours gathering, showcased a record number of submissions from area artists.
Six participants received honorable mentions and a $100 stipend each. These artists and their works were: Barbara Althoff for “Begonia Splendor,” Linda Wente for “Large Owl,” Eileen Springer for “Sunset of the Brave,” Jan VonBokel for “Country Colors,” J. R. Caldwell for “Lake Cabin,” and Destry Potter for “My Way Home.”
In addition, six category winners were recognized with $250 awards. Kimberly Lewis won in Landscapes for “Bring a Basket”; Barbara Brummer took the Floral category with “Majestic”; Carrie Wente was awarded in Animals for “Zebra”; Tom David received Still Life honors with “A Basket of Apples”; Melody Lewis won Rural Living for “Fall is in the Air”; and Theresa Pollum secured Cityscapes with her piece, “Heart Strong.”
SBL Orthopedic Surgeon Peter Bonutti, MD, commented on the quality of work displayed: "The Effingham Art Guild continues to amaze us with the range of creativity and expression on display. Each piece hanging in this clinic tells a story, and together, they reflect the spirit of our community."
SBL President and CEO Kim Uphoff highlighted the ongoing partnership: "This clinic has a long tradition of supporting the Effingham Art Guild. The partnership between the Art Guild and the Bonutti Clinic continues to remind us that art plays an essential role in the well-being of both patients and caregivers alike."
The collaboration between SBL Bonutti Clinic and Effingham Art Guild began more than 20 years ago when Dr. Bonutti and his brother Boris established it. This year marked the 24th consecutive art reception held at the clinic. Organizers noted that all entries were displayed during the event, and next year will mark its 25th anniversary.
