State Representative Adam Niemerg from Dieterich has announced an upcoming event to discuss the impact of deer hunting seasons on farming operations and crop damage. The event, titled "Coffee & Conversation," is scheduled for January 22, 2025, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Newton. It will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. and feature participation from both the Jasper County Farm Bureau and the Clark County Farm Bureau.

Niemerg emphasized the significance of this issue, stating, “This has been a growing issue not only in my district but around the state of Illinois.” He highlighted that conservation efforts by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) have led to a robust deer population. This situation raises questions about whether extending the hunting season could help mitigate crop damage caused by deer.

The event aims to foster discussion among various stakeholders, including farmers and hunters. Niemerg added, “We need to have a frank conversation about the best solutions for all interested parties including deer hunters and farmers.”

The public is invited to attend and participate in the dialogue. Interested individuals can RSVP through the Jasper County Farm Bureau or Niemerg’s office using provided contact numbers.
