Thornton Township has reached a settlement with Edgar County Watchdogs, Inc. regarding a lawsuit filed under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The lawsuit was initiated last year after Thornton Township and Supervisor Tiffany Henyard did not respond to requests for public records.

As part of the settlement, Thornton Township agreed to pay $5,500 in attorney fees to Edgar County Watchdogs. According to the organization, if the requested records had been provided initially, there would have been no cost incurred by the township or its taxpayers.

The legal representation for Edgar County Watchdogs in this case was provided by Loevy & Loevy. The requested records were obtained as part of the settlement agreement.

The organization indicated that there are still several pending requests for public records that remain unanswered. They are considering filing additional lawsuits if these requests continue to be ignored.

In response to ongoing issues, Edgar County Watchdogs stated: "For Henyard to continually tell the public she will 'show the receipts,' her actions tell us otherwise."
