On July 11, 2025, the Allendale Rural Fire Protection District was reported to have used a fire district vehicle for private purposes. A tip indicated that the district delivered water to fill a homeowner's pool outside its jurisdiction. This action is not allowed as it competes with private water hauling businesses and could involve unmetered water usage.

Photos and a video were sent showing the incident, including footage of the fire district’s water tanker speeding after delivering the water. Following this, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to obtain details about the event.

The Fire District did not provide all requested information. They withheld the name of the truck driver and the recipient of the water, although an unredacted check from this person was provided post-FOIA request. The approval source for using a district vehicle and details on where the water was obtained were also not disclosed.

Furthermore, no policy against using government vehicles for private purposes like filling pools was provided by the Fire District.
