On June 28, 2024, a shooting incident occurred at the Kansas Public Housing area in Kansas, Illinois. The Edgar County Housing Authority released surveillance footage of the event following a Freedom of Information Act request.

The videos show an altercation between two individuals, Dejahrie D. Campbell and Xavier T. Harris. Initially engaged in a verbal disagreement, they parted ways before Campbell returned with a firearm pointed at Harris. Subsequently, Harris retrieved a weapon from his Jeep and fired at Campbell, who was hit in the leg. Harris then retreated into a home where he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Campbell was hospitalized and later appeared in Edgar County Court on July 1 for a probable cause hearing. According to Judici.com, he faces charges including aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and obstruction of justice/destruction of evidence—both Class 4 felonies—and aggravated assault/use of a deadly weapon—a Class A misdemeanor.

Campbell has been denied pre-trial release and remains in custody at the Edgar County Jail.
