The Illinois Attorney General's office is reviewing a criminal investigation involving DeWitt County. The situation was highlighted in a recent article, which noted the absence of any response from DeWitt County Chairman Dan Matthews at the time of its publication.

On March 1, 2024, Chairman Matthews addressed several questions related to the matter. However, there remains some confusion regarding his statement on economic interests due to his position as Vice President of Sales for a company involved.

Further inquiries through Freedom of Information Act Requests have revealed significant purchases made by the county from CDS Office Systems. These transactions seemingly required competitive bidding processes that either did not occur or lacked proper documentation. This issue will be explored further in an upcoming article, which aims to include insights from the current State’s Attorney.

"Considering Matthews is the VP of Sales for the company we must admit confusion as to how he has no economic interest."
