South Holland, Ill. (ECWd) – Facebook user Joy Schreiber has highlighted that the Illinois Bingo License and Tax Act allows local governments to conduct BINGO games “subject to” a $10 maximum prize value for each game without requiring a license. According to the Act, local governments are not eligible for a bingo license but can organize games within this specified restriction.

Section 1.3(9) of the Bingo License and Tax Act outlines these provisions, while Section 5 of the Act prescribes penalties for violations as a Class A Misdemeanor under the Illinois Criminal Code, which could result in fines up to $5,000.

In an earlier article, it was reported that Thornton Township, under Tiffany Henyard's guidance, was exceeding the permitted spending on its monthly Bingo games. This practice appears to contravene the Act’s $10 aggregate per game restriction.

"Interested persons should file a complaint with the Illinois Department of Revenue alleging violations of the Bingo License and Tax Act, Section 1.3," stated Schreiber.

The South Holland Police are urged to enforce compliance with this law during future Bingo events at Thornton Township.
