The Kids Fishing Derby held in Carlyle was deemed a significant success, attracting a large crowd and favorable weather. The event featured several notable guests, including radio personality Al Crocker of "Fishing and the Outdoors with Al Crocker," McKendree University Head Bass Fishing Coach Jon Rinderer, Carlyle High School Bass Fishing Coach Ricky Huge, and Clinton County Board Chairman Brad Knolhoff.

Participants, including children and some parents, received hands-on lessons in baiting hooks and reeling in catches from expert fishermen. They were also informed about potential opportunities to join high school fishing teams and the availability of scholarships at the college level.

Special congratulations were extended to Ryder for catching the biggest fish—a wide-mouthed bass weighing 4 lbs 12 ounces—and to Drake for catching the most fish, totaling 41 bluegills, which is the official state fish of Illinois.

Chairman Knolhoff provided donations of grilled hotdogs, chips, and water for the event. Additional contributions included a tackle box prize from Coach Rinderer of McKendree University, a fishing pole prize from Henkel’s Hook & Arrow Bait Shop in Carlyle, and trophies from Bud’s Minor League in Salem.
