Chicago (61,601 cases) and Cook County (45,112 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,787, while Cook County recorded 2,107 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,778,322, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 33,455 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 85,361 were male and 93,344 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,054, while female deaths stood at 3,458.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,358 Asians, 3,358 whites, 2,060 African-Americans, 1,566 Hispanics, and 176 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
