Chicago (57,342 cases) and Cook County (42,122 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,732, while Cook County recorded 2,056 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,308,854, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 29,038 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 77,009 were male and 83,782 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,964, while female deaths stood at 3,355.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,253 Asians, 3,253 whites, 2,018 African-Americans, 1,530 Hispanics, and 174 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
