Oblong ranked 482th in state in lottery ticket sales for January 2016

The Village of Oblong had the 482th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of January 2016 -- up 12 spots from its December ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Oblong was $24.58 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the East Central Reporter, Oblong generated $35,074.50 in net sales from its one lottery retailer in January 2016, compared to $32,525.50 in January 2015.

The Village of Oblong is in Crawford County, and has a population of 1,427, according to 2010 census data.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in January 2016 was $29,289.72.

Oblong's top lottery retailer is Caseys Gen Store #2638 located at 505 E Main St, Oblong, IL 62449.

Caseys Gen Store #2638 generated 100 percent of Oblong's January 2016 lottery ticket sales and 11 percent of Crawford County's sales that month, which was $322,187.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top four cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Crawford County in 2015 were Robinson, Oblong, Palestine and Hutsonville.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
