The Arcola City Council learned during a recent meeting that the falling price of oil will benefit the community with summer road work looming and no state funding available until the Illinois legislature passes a budget.
A motor fuel tax engineer explained to the council during its meeting on April 4 that the plan is to repair roads in the Acres area, as well as complete annual road maintenance throughout the city.
The council also approved a contract with Jamaica Pyrotechnics in the amount of $5,000 to provide community fireworks on July 1.
A request by Greg Fulton to construct a storage building at 609 N. Locust was denied.
