Casey City Council convenes to consider park improvements, negotiations

The Casey City Council recently met to consider park improvements and various negotiations.

With Mayor Everett Bolin presiding and six aldermen present, the Casey City Council met Feb. 1 at 108 E. Main St., starting with an executive session before moving on to regular business.

The council moved to its executive session in order to carry out matters involving union negotiations, personnel and possible litigation issues. After reconvening to a regular session, members heard regular reports and approved financial activity for January.

Park Committee Chairman Sharron Carlen presented an update on a Jan. 26 meeting regarding a park district tax levy and future improvements, suggesting that an additional meeting for further discussion regarding park operations be scheduled for 5 p.m. on Feb 8.

Mike Nichols, public utility committee chair, reported on a water line contract currently on the table for negotiation with the City of Marshall, also discussed at a Jan. 26 meeting, and asked for a salary and license committee meeting to be scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 8 to discuss the union contract.

Council members unanimously approved financial activities including bills for January totaling $542,828.82; collection deposit report, also for January, in the amount of $558,310.40; and a statement of cash and investments for December 2015 totaling $9,885,411.68.
