The Historic Preservation Commission branch of Charleston’s City Council met March 11 at City Hall, 520 Jackson Ave., to catch up on grants, theater and workshop events in store for local residents.

Reports and updates were presented by Charleston’s city planner and personnel associated with ongoing grants projects.

Commission members discussed activities pertaining to the Will Rogers Theatre, as well as an exchange club tour event and a strategic planning workshop slated for April 18.

Following new business, time was allotted during the meeting for public presentations, petitions and communications, when citizens wishing to address the commission could deliver input prior to adjournment.

The Historic Preservation Commission’s next meeting was confirmed for April 15.

The commission consists of seven members appointed by the mayor of the City of Charleston, all of whom serve staggered terms. Members are appointed on the basis of expertise, experience or interest in the areas of architectural history, building construction and engineering, finance, historical and architectural preservation, neighborhood associations or real estate.

Current members include Chair Erin Blitz, Vice Chair Gary Henigman, Bob Bertand, Merry Lichtenberger, Blair Lord, Kathryn Morice, Elisa Roberts, ex officio member Nora Pat Small and staff liaison Deborah Muller.
