State Representative Adam Niemerg participated in a ceremony honoring Vietnam Veterans at Georgetown–Ridge Farm High School Gymnasium. The event marked the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam conflict. Niemerg joined the Adjutant General of Illinois, Major General Rodney C. Boyd, along with several other elected officials to honor 170 veterans.
The tribute, reportedly initiated by the Georgetown–Ridge Farm Men's Club, featured a parade through the town followed by a ceremony at the high school gymnasium. Living Vietnam Veterans were recognized one-by-one on the gym floor, while family members of deceased veterans were also acknowledged individually. The audience included locals showing their support, and the Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School Band performed service songs and the National Anthem.
Rep. Niemerg expressed his gratitude, saying, “After 50 years, it’s long overdue. And I want to say THANK YOU to our Vietnam Veterans, the sacrifices that they made to keep our country free; and I want to thank their families for the sacrifices that they made as well.”
