City of Casey City Council met Jan. 8.

The Regular Meeting of the City Council was held Wednesday January 8th, 2025 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Mike Nichols was present and called the meeting to order. Tanner Brown led the pledge of allegiance.
Roll Call:
Present: Alderman Brown
Alderman Hanley
Alderman Jenkins
Alderman Mumford
Alderman Wilson
Absent: Alderman Richardson
A quorum was declared.
Public Forum:
Chris Jackson was present and asked for an update on the 2 properties next to her. Mayor Nichols reported that he has a meeting with Attorney Willenborg on Friday and will have more information then.
Shane Todd with Christmas in the Park was present and went over the numbers for the year. There was roughly 1,800 cars that went through this year and donations were around $6,600. He thanked the City for their donation and thanked all the utility workers that helped set up and take down the decorations.

Meeting Minutes:
Mayor Nichols looked for approval of the minutes of the December 16th, 2024 City Council Meeting.
Alderman Mumford motioned approval of the minutes of the December 16th, 2024 City Council Meeting, seconded by Alderman Brown.
Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Brown, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 - Richardson
Motion declared carried A Small Town with a Big Heart
Officers Reports:
Clerk Mumford presented the December 2024 Bills Paid in the amount of $3,963,259.91 for approval.
Alderman Hanley motioned approval of the December 2024 Bills Paid, seconded by Alderman Wilson.
Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Brown, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 – Richardson
Motion declared carried
Treasurer Lorton presented the December 2024 Treasurer’s Collection Deposit in the amount of $523,479.51 for approval.
Alderman Jenkins motioned approval of the December 2024 Treasurer’s Collection Deposit Report, seconded by Alderman Hanley.
Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Brown, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 – Richardson

Superintendent Biggs reported that he was very proud of the utility workers with snow removal. The fuel tanks will be ready to be used by next week.
Chief Henderson reported on a press release that has been put out from the DEA and Assistant US Attorney’s office, in regards to the break in at the Pharmacie Shoppe months ago. He thanked the officers for their work in apprehending these suspects.
EMA Director Craig reported that they did a lot of hand pushing out vehicles the past few days and they had 2 people use the warming center they have had open.
New Business:
Mayor Nichols reported that with the new Council Member he has decided to change up the committee. The new committee appoints are the following:
Parks and Airports: Brown, Wilson and Richardson
City Hall and Public Safety: Hanley, Mumford and Wilson
Ordinance and Licenses: Richardson, Hanley and Jenkins
Finance, Salaries and Business District: Jenkins, Hanley and Brown
Public Utilities, Streets and Alleys: Wilson, Mumford and Jenkins
Downtown Improvement, Economic Development, Festivals and Events: Mumford, Richardson and Brown
Attorney Willenborg who was present by phone, presented Ordinance #578: An Ordinance Amending Title 8 of the Code of Ordinance of the City of Casey, Illinois for approval.
Alderman Mumford motioned approval of Ordinance #578, seconded by Alderman Wilson.
Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Brown, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 – Richardson

Unfinished Business:
Attorney Willenborg presented Ordinance #577: An Ordinance Authorizing the transfer of Real estate (105 and 107 NW 2nd) for approval.
Alderman Hanley motioned approval of Ordinance #577, seconded by Alderman Jenkins.

Ayes: 5 – Brown, Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 – Richardson

Alderman Reports:
Alderman Brown thanked the utility workers for the snow removal process and also said there has been good communication from the City on social media lately.
Alderman Jenkins thanked all involved with the snow removal.
Alderman Wilson also thanked all who helped with snow removal.
Mayor Report:
Mayor Nichols gave the following list for projects he would like to see competed in 2025:
- Park pond project/Tipsword project
- Tree and stump removal
- Sidewalk replacement
- Bulk fuel tanks installation
- Spot light on the eagle carving
- Park recreation facility project
- Finish up the work at the shooting range
- Continue with pond stocking
- Continue work on abandoned and dilapidated properties
- Work on inoperable and unregistered vehicles around town
There was no further Business of the City Council for the January 8th, 2025 Council Meeting.
