A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Coles County Sheriff's Department in Illinois on January 7, 2025. The request, submitted by East Central Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought detailed information about all arrests made in the county during the year 2024.
In accordance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, we at East Central Reporter requested a list of all arrests from January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. The desired information includes the arrestee's name, arrest date, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to such records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes not only reporting news but also holding public institutions accountable for their actions.
We have also requested a fee waiver for this information due to our role as a media organization disseminating important information to the public. We await the department's response and will continue to strive for transparency and accountability in our reporting.
