State Representative Adam Niemerg has announced that Martinsville will receive a $600,000 Open Space Land Acquisition & Development (OSLAD) Grant. The grant is part of over $55.2 million awarded by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to support 100 park projects across Illinois.

Rep. Niemerg stated, "I am pleased that Martinsville will be able to add some lighting and ADA parking for safety concerns as well as bleachers, a basketball court, pickleball courts, and a water park splash pad for more activities for the kids and residents of the community." He emphasized that these enhancements would improve the quality of life and promote healthier lifestyles in his district.

In addition to Martinsville's grant, other awards totaling $2,925,000 have been distributed among Champaign County, Coles County, and Vermilion County. The funding aims to develop recreational facilities that will benefit both residents and visitors in these areas.

The OSLAD program was established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986. It is a collaborative effort between state and local governments to finance land acquisition and development for parks. Over its 35-year history, OSLAD has contributed $640 million to park projects statewide.

Rep. Niemerg highlighted the economic benefits of such partnerships: "This partnership between IDNR and our local government is not only helpful for communities to grow; it impacts economic development activities as well." He encouraged other communities to apply for future grants when available.
