FOIA Request to City of Sumner Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As a part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, to the City of Sumner. The request is for records detailing all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023 till today's date.
The specific fields requested include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address and contractor name. In addition to this information for new permits, we have also asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status.
Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
