Chris Miller, a state representative from Illinois, said that federal immigration enforcement plays a crucial role in protecting communities. He criticized Governor J.B. Pritzker's stance on the matter, suggesting it undermines safety within the state. Miller expressed these views in a statement on Facebook.

"JB Pritzker tried to spin a false narrative today during a press conference but here is the truth: ICE is protecting Americans by swiftly removing illegals like this guy from Illinois communities," said Chris G. Miller, according to Facebook. "Pritzker even said Illinois is less safe with federal officers enforcing laws! He's pathetic, embarrassing, and has become the real threat to Illinois."

According to the Associated Press, Illinois is currently at the center of a political clash over immigration enforcement. Governor J.B. Pritzker has been critical of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Chicago, accusing federal agents of overreach during recent raids. The Associated Press reports that both Pritzker and city officials have reaffirmed Illinois’ sanctuary policies, while federal officials maintain that their actions are lawful. This dispute has intensified since October 2025, following widely publicized operations in Brighton Park.

As reported by WTTW, newly released data indicates that there were 1,470 ICE arrests in Illinois from January through July 2025. Approximately 60% of these arrests involved individuals with prior criminal convictions, while 40% were categorized as non-criminal or unknown. Advocates have called for greater transparency, arguing that ICE provides incomplete details regarding the nature of charges or deportation status.

According to USAFacts, Illinois' violent crime rate in 2024 was 289 incidents per 100,000 residents—a 0.51% decline from 2023—suggesting that overall crime has remained stable even as debates over immigration policy and enforcement have intensified. The data, drawn from FBI reports, indicate that Illinois' rate aligns with broader national decreases in violent crime since 2021.

Miller, a Republican representing Illinois’ 101st House District since 2019, is known for his focus on agriculture, energy, and economic development. According to the Illinois General Assembly records, he serves on several committees including Appropriations–Higher Education; Energy & Environment; Gun Violence Prevention; and Public Health Committees. Miller is recognized for advocating rural development and fiscal conservatism.
