FOIA Request to City of Effingham Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In a bid to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Effingham. The request was sent on October 30, 2024, and seeks information about both new and active residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the date of the request.
Specifically, we requested a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued within this period with details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name. Similarly, we asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their status and similar detailed information.
As a media organization committed to transparency in public institutions and holding them accountable for their actions, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that being media professionals makes us eligible for a fee waiver when requesting such information.
