FOIA Request to City of Shelbyville Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at East Central Reporter have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We are seeking information about all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date.
The specific details we have requested include the type of permit, the date it was issued, the fee paid for it, who requested it, the address associated with it, and the name of the contractor involved. In addition to this data on new permits, we have also asked for a list of all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status.
Access to public records is crucial for us in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
