Nason's mayor, Michelle L. McKinney, was arrested on April 16, 2025, for alleged felony crimes. The arrest stems from an investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, following a tip on April 2, 2025, about a stolen vehicle hidden at a Nason residence.

Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant and found a black 2009 GMC pickup truck. The vehicle, reported stolen in Wayne County, had been moved to conceal it further. McKinney was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle and obstructing justice.

Post-arrest, McKinney was taken to Jefferson County Jail and subsequently released with a court date under the SAFE-T Act's bail system. The statement from the Sheriff's Office emphasizes, "McKinney is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law."
