State Senator Michael Hastings of Matteson is facing allegations from his ex-wife, Kathleen Hastings, who claims he verbally abused her in front of their children. The accusations were detailed in a petition for a temporary restraining order filed with the Will County Court by attorney Paul A. Frigo.

The petition alleges that during their child's soccer game in Frankfort, Hastings called his ex-wife derogatory names and made obscene gestures towards her. Kathleen Hastings claims these incidents occurred while she was with their children.

According to the court documents obtained by South Cook News, Kathleen asserts that after the soccer game in February, Hastings followed her to her car and threatened her by saying, "You’re going to get what’s coming to you." She described him as standing 6’2" and weighing 255 pounds, contrasting with her own height and weight of 5’5" and 125 pounds.

Further allegations include an incident at a school dance recital in March where Kathleen claims Hastings mouthed offensive words at her during their daughter's performance. Additionally, she accuses him of filing a false police report intended to have her arrested for taking their children on Spring Break. She also describes an altercation during their son's First Communion where he allegedly told her to "shut the fuck up" and pushed past her.

Hastings is currently running for re-election as a four-term Democrat senator with elections scheduled for November 5th.
