Despite claims of misinformation from certain Shelby County residents, a local news organization maintains that its reporting remains accurate and based on information obtained through the Freedom of Information Act. A recent Facebook post questioned the accuracy of their report regarding former State’s Attorney Nichole Kronke's use of a county credit card.
The organization asserts that any redacted public credit card records warrant scrutiny. They claim the redactions in the credit card statement presented to the county clerk amounted to unauthorized destruction of a public record.
In response to claims made on Facebook, they stated: “But the paperwork filed with the Shelby County Clerk is NOT redacted” – Our Response: Which records? The very document we published was in fact redacted so the implication it was not by pointing to ‘other’ records is a classic misinformation tactic."
Another Facebook post claimed an unredacted copy was filed before Kronke resigned. The organization countered: "We have personally read a sworn statement by a law enforcement officer... stating that Kronke’s credit card statements in the county clerk’s office show redacted statements."
They also addressed allegations related to hotel charges and ARDC dues, stating no registration or payment for attendance at a conference had been found in county records. They emphasized: "If Kronke went to the conference as claimed why is there no registration documents and payment for the conference?"
The news outlet reiterated its call for law enforcement attention, quoting their article: “We sure hope the ISP is paying attention and gets answers to these questions in their investigation.”
