The Shelby County Farm Committee convened to deliberate on various issues related to the county farm. The meeting agenda was revised prior to the session. The committee voted unanimously to approve a draft ordinance that would declare the county farmland as no longer necessary, appropriate, or required as originally acquired. This ordinance will now be presented to the full county board for consideration.

Additionally, the committee approved a two-year cash rent lease for the Shelby County Poor Farm, which will also require approval from the full county board. However, there was no vote or discussion regarding custom farming during this meeting.

The committee discussed potential advertising methods for cash rent bids and voted 2-1 in favor of sending the 2022 real estate taxes to the finance committee for payment using county funds. This motion had previously failed at a full county board vote and did not pass again.

A unanimous decision was made by the committee to have KSI conduct soil testing on the farmland; this proposal will now be evaluated by the full county board.

There was also a discussion about hiring personnel for mowing at the county cemetery. Board member Carol Cole proposed an individual who is related to some county official, though this relationship was not disclosed. Board member Williams emphasized that such relationships should be disclosed during a full county board meeting. No formal vote occurred as this item was only slated for discussion.

Attendees read general discussions and misinformation regarding recent farm legislation, directing those interested to further reading material available online.

The meeting concluded without further votes or decisions being made.
