City of Casey City Council met April 1.

The Regular Meeting of the City Council was held Monday April 1st, 2024; beginning at 6:00 p.m. Mayor Mike Nichols was present and called the meeting to order. Steve Jenkins led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call:
Present: Alderman Hanley
Alderman Jenkins
Alderman Mumford
Alderman Richardson
Alderman Wilson
Absent: Williams
A quorum was declared.
Public Forum:
Shawn Davidson was present and asked about the properties being bid out and if he had to have a structure built within 2 years. Attorney Willenborg clarified by saying if the proposal has a stipulation to build, the yes it must be completed within those 2 years of closing.
Nik Groothuis was signed up and will speak when it gets to the resolution later on in the meeting.

Meeting Minutes:
Mayor Nichols looked for approval of the minutes of the March 18th, 2024 City Council Meeting.
Alderman Mumford motioned approval of the minutes of the March 18th, 2024 City Council Meeting, seconded by Alderman Jenkins. Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 - Williams
Motion declared carried.
Officers Reports: A Small Town with a Big Heart
Clerk Mumford presented March 2024 Bills paid in the amount of $721,291.98 for approval. Alderman Hanley motioned approval of March 2024 Bills Paid, seconded by Alderman Richardson. Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 - Williams
Motion declared carried.
Treasurer Lorton presented the March 2024 Treasurer’s Collection Deposit Report in the amount of $644,158.27 for approval.
Mayor Nichols asked if this was all in come for the month. Treasurer Lorton then passed out the entire income for the month.
Alderman Wilson motioned approval of the March 2024 Treasurer’s Collection Deposit Report, seconded by Alderman Jenkins. Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 - Williams
Motion declared carried.
Attorney Willenborg presented Resolution #040124A: A Resolution declaring certain real property and improvements thereon as being Dangerous and Unsafe (904 N State Highway Route 49). She explained what this would allow the City to do in regards to this property. Nik Groothuis (who was signed up on public forum) then explained what they have been going through in regards to insurance regarding this property. After some discussion the following motion was made:
Alderman Mumford motioned approval to table Resolution #040124A until the April 15th City Council Meeting, seconded by Alderman Jenkins. Upon roll call the vote was:
Ayes: 5 – Hanley, Jenkins, Mumford, Richardson, and Wilson
Nays: 0 – None
Absent: 1 - Williams
Motion declared tabled.
Mayor Nichols gave an update on the fishing dock, downtown restrooms and new playground equipment.
Economic Development Director Tait explained why we weren’t having an eclipse event in Casey. Also gave information on EV charging station here in City Hall parking lot.
EMA Director Craig reported that we will have our sirens reprogramed soon. Just waiting for us to have a time when their aren’t storm threats.

Alderman Reports:
Alderman Mumford reported on a meeting they held with Mavrick and the Huisinga’s. Alderman Wilson asked for an updated on the building falling in on South Central. Attorney Willenborg said she would reach out to the other attorney for us.
Alderman Richardson would like to have a park committee meeting to talk about the pool bathhouse and bathroom being put in the playground area.
Mayor Report:
Mayor Nichols reported that Trout has been delivered to the Park ponds.
There was no further Business of the City Council for the April 1st, 2024 Council Meeting.
