We first covered the arrest of Steven Decker in this article after he allegedly drove through a cemetery in Moweaqua in January of 2023.  Decker was originally charged with Class 3 and 4 felonies and Class A misdemeanors; however, no charge was filed for the damage done to gravestones which falls under the Cemetery Protection Act.

While we have no explanation as to why there was no charge for damaging gravestones in the original charges filed by the previous State’s Attorney, we understand that a new charge has been filed and it is the most severe of all the charges. He now faces an additional Class 2 Felony charge for damage to 10 or more gravestones.

The following photos of the damage were obtained from the Shelby County Sheriff’s office.
