U.S. Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL15) has co-sponsored legislation to remove the United States from the World Health Organization.
Congressman Andy Biggs (R-AZ) introduced the measure in January. Miller has co-sponsored since it then.
“I am cosponsoring H.R. 79 to WITHDRAW the United States from the corrupt World Health Organization,” Miller said on Facebook. “President Trump was right to withdraw the US from the WHO, and Biden is foolish to trust them when they repeated China's lies about Wuhan!”
H.R. 79 is aptly named the “WHO Withdrawal Act.”
“Withdrawal of United States from the Constitution of the World Health Organization; prohibition on the use of funds,” the resolution reads. “Effective on the date of the enactment of this Act—“ “(1) the President shall withdraw the United States from the Constitution of the World Health Organization (62 Stat. 2679; 14 U.N.T.S 186); and (2) no funds available to any Federal department or agency may be used to provide for the participation of the United States in the World Health Organization or any successor organization.”
Miller is a member of the House Freedom Caucus.
“We support open, accountable & limited govt, the Constitution & the rule of law, and policies that promote the liberty, safety & prosperity of all Americans,” the House Freedom Caucus’s Twitter profile reads.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus, which includes Miller’s husband, State Rep. Chris Miller (R-Oakland) endorsed the demand for the withdrawal from the WHO.
“Withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization is an America First action that is long overdue,” the Illinois Freedom Caucus said in a Facebook post. It has become increasingly self-evident the WHO is just another ineffective, international organization lacking in any meaningful accomplishments to justify the billions of dollars in US funding the organization has received. Illinois taxpayers have sent hundreds of millions of dollars to the WHO and all we have received in return are corrupt, Chica-centric, America last policies that are not in the best interest of our nation or the world.”
The Illinois Freedom Caucus pointed out, "If there was ever a time for the World Health Organization to prove itself, and to be worth the more than the $4 billion the United States has sent WHO since 2010, it would have been during the Covid-19 Pandemic."
According to the Illinois Freedom Caucus' press release, "the World Health Organization failed to show even a modicum of transparency and honesty during the pandemic. Instead of the WHO paying a price for their dishonesty, President Biden has proposed to reward this bad behavior with increased funding off the backs of working families.”
What the taxpayers saw during the pandemic was "that the institutions we thought were protecting us are actively working against the interests of the United States and are lying to us and the world at large," the press release reads further. Urging Congress to pass the measure, the Illinois Freedom Caucus wants to "send a message to the WHO that their lies will no longer be tolerated,” and "The only way to stop the lies and end the anti-American policies is to cut off funding."
