ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS

Principal PK-8 Report – Morgan Wilhoit

122 students (grades 3-12) earned their 2nd quarter donut for honor roll.

The backpack food program began this month. We were able to supply food to over 80 students in the first week. They will be delivering each month. Thank you to Julie Shear, Lori Carroll, and Sue Biddle for coming to help organize and disperse.

State test dates have been set for March 27-31. Makeup test dates will be the first week of April before we leave for spring break. More information will be sent out to families within the next few weeks.

MAP benchmark testing district-wide begins this week. We will be running a different bell schedule so that all students test at the same time.

Both K-5 and 6-8 will be having rewards for MAP growth. If an individual meets the goal set, they will get treats. If 70% or more of a class meets the goal, they will be having a dance party.

Teacher institute was great. We provided teachers with breakfast. Elementary teachers received math instruction training through Eureka (our math curriculum). Junior high teachers received training on student engagement and achievement.

Elementary:

We are looking into a new reading curriculum for K-5. We have had our current series for almost 10 years and it is very outdated. The new series that we are previewing is iReady (Magnetic Reading). At our conference, we heard nothing but great things about this program in conjunction with progress monitoring and giving students additional support.

We had a great turnout for our winter concert and students did an excellent job. Santa was able to visit many of the classrooms and read stories to the kids.

Junior High:

Focused social-emotional learning lessons have been going really well. We have talked about social media safety and positivity/mindset so far. Students are very engaged in the lessons and contribute a lot to discussions.

Mrs. Evans has some exciting things happening in science. She will be attending an Astro Camp Training to be able to possibly host a summer camp for science. Our Climate Action School has been moving forward and we will be able to meet with students in Pakistan, India, and another city in the US. Mrs. Evans also applied and received a scholarship for Project Ice, which is another potential learning opportunity for our students if she is trained in that area.
