Village of Arthur Community Relations and Tourism Committee met July 25

Village of Arthur Community Relations and Tourism Committee met July 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Monday July 25,2022 - 6PM

Community Relations and Tourism Committee Meeting

Called to order at 6:00. Roll Call: Jim Fleming, Matt Bernius, Christy Miller, Marty Yeakel, Rod Randall and Grant Corum. Others in attendance: Stephanie Wierman, Sally McCarthy, Jeremy Hale, and Larry Schlabach.

New Business

1. Discussion on options of use for the property west side of the first block of south Vine Street. Grant presented a plan from Farnsworth and more discussion was had on Larry Schlabachs presentation. Lots of concerns and questions were brought up; insurance liability, maintaining, ongoing bills, railroad concerns, and where to put snow during snow removal. After much discussion, it was determined that Larry should go forward with the wall project (that is on private property) and look into funding and the village will continue to look at putting in a parking lot. We will invite Larry and Andy at a future date to continue discussions.

2. Discussion on possible plans for the gazebo area. Everyone seemed to think that would be a great place to put a community area. Different ideas included: shaded canopy, stage, seating, and screen for movies. The committee is going to continue to gather ideas for this area.

3. Rod updated the group on the sesquicentennial logo and ideas the committee has. Discussion around having monthly events leading up to the main event that will be during the Cheese Festival in 2023. Many ideas were shared including business and organization recognition, community picnic, sweet corn boil, live entertainment, Christmas walk and replaying This Is Our Story. A calendar and photobook are also in the works. More details to come as this continue to develop.

4. Christy would like to see more interaction with the trustees and village employees. After discussing possible ideas, the group thought maybe each sub committee could do a lunch with the employees of that committee at various times. They will also work to get the Christmas party back this year. We will also put together a plan for village employee birthdays, anniversaries and births.

General discussion

Sally McCarthy wanted to thank the village for the road work being done in her neighborhood and throughout the village. It has made a huge difference.

Meeting adjourned at 7:43 pm
