City of Martinsville City Council met May 25.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

*The meeting was called to order by Mayor Davidson. Alderman Lovell led us in Prayer. All in attendance recited the “Pledge of Allegiance.” Roll call was answered by the following

council members and elected officials: Chris Davidson, Chris Perry, John Skinner, and Ashley Wilhoit. Troy Propst and Melinda Lovell, Treasurer Terri Connelly were absent. Also, in attendance were Mayor Herman Davidson, Clerk Jana Akers, and Attorney Richard Bernardoni. Employees and citizens in attendance are attached to the back of the minutes.

Public Comments:

Dan Kibler thanks the council for what they do for the City of Martinsville, also states that the city may consider truck route for the trucks here often with signage

--Motion by A Wilhoit 2nd by C Perry for approval of minutes from the 05/11/22 city council meeting and census meeting minutes from 5/18/22

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (4).

--Mayor Davidson ask Shannon Woodard about the cost, and he said the cost of the logo verses emblem and he said it’s because of the paints. But the decision must be made tonight

--Motion by C Davidson 2nd by C Perry for approval of putting the name “MARTINSVILLE” on the new water tower

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (4)

--Motion by J Skinner 2nd by A Wilhoit on invoice #13855-6 to Connor & Connor in the amount of $12,159.78

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (4)

--Motion by C Davidson 2nd by A Wilhoit on pay estimate #5 to Maquire Iron in the amount of $134,637 Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (4)

--Motion by C Davidson 2nd by A Wilhoit on getting a diesel tank for Hill Top Drive from Effingham Equity Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (4)

--Motion by C Perry 2nd by C Davidson on getting additional street lighting in the cost of $3,374.50 (moving light on Schofield, directional light at cemetery, light at Vine & Toledo, and Ridgelawn & Ferrell)

Upon roll call vote all alderman present voted for the motion (4)

C Davidson:

-look into paint machine

-new painted lines look good

-repair of sidewalks: Mill Street, Vine Street

-having the City Employees looking for garbage and tall grass

-mentioned property up by fairgrounds being purchased possibility by city to be cleaned up

-city needs to contact someone on housing grants

-city needs to get back on helping people to bring them to town

C Perry:

-city employees did great on the Veteran’s park

A Wilhoit:

-maybe look into incentives to get people to town

Tabled:

--banners and signage for new building

-Motion by C Perry 2nd by C Davidson to adjourn meeting at 7:42 pm
