Activities planned at Booth Library for National Library Week

14

Eastern Illinois University’s Booth Library will celebrate National Library Week April 3-9 by sponsoring several activities. The theme is “Connect with Your Library.”

Library patrons will be invited to share their positive experiences about Booth Library on mobile white boards throughout the building during National Library Week.

On Monday, April 4, the library will host the 12th annual Edible Book Festival in the Marvin Foyer, near the north entrance. This year’s festival will be an all-day event.

Items will be on display for public viewing starting at 9 a.m., and the public is invited to vote for their favorites from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A reception with light refreshments will begin at 4 p.m., and the award winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

An “edible book” is something that looks like a book or is book-themed and is made out of food. More information is available on the library website, www.library.eiu.edu.

The annual book sale will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, outside the south entrance of Booth Library in the Alumni Quad (weather permitting). A large selection of books in all subject areas and hundreds of paperback fiction titles will be available for sale.

All items have been donated by the campus and local communities. No patrons will be allowed to browse or purchase the books prior to the 9 a.m. start time. The proceeds from the sale are used to enhance library programs and services.

National Library Week, first sponsored in 1958, is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and library staff, and to promote library use and support.

This year’s honorary chair for National Library Week is Molly Shannon, actress, comedian and Saturday Night Live cast member.

More information about National Library Week can be found on the Booth Library website, www.library.eiu.edu.
