Gubernatorial candidate and state Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) believes "justice was served again" now that all three suspects have been convicted in the February 2020 shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery.
Bailey took to Twitter to express his opinion after the jury reached a guilty verdict.
"The men responsible for chasing down and killing Ahmaud Arbery were convicted of felony murder charges," Bailey wrote in a Nov. 24 tweet.
Greg McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and their neighbor William Bryan all face mandatory sentences of life in prison, but a judge will decide whether or not the three men will have a chance at parole. The three were convicted in the shooting death of Arbery as he was running unarmed through a subdivision in Georgia last year.
"Law and order means every American should feel safe in their communities," Bailey tweeted. "As your next Governor, I'll work everyday to ensure you are."
Bailey recently celebrated a federal court's decision to halt the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's plans to enforce President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for businesses, according to Prairie State Wire.
"This is a victory for freedom, working families and businesses," Bailey said in a post to his campaign's official Twitter account on Nov. 17. "Just like liberal @JBPritzker, @JoeBiden doesn’t have the authority to mandate or the backbone to lead."
Bailey has also promised to do more for the residents of Illinois by having the state government do less. He wrote in a tweet that "it's time Springfield stopped trying to control people's lives."
Bailey also took to the campaign trail with a stop in Bedford Park.
West Cook News reported Bailey called it a "great event" that included discussions on how to restore respect for law enforcement and how to improve safety in Illinois communities.
