Arcola Community Unified School District 306 Board Building Committee met Sept. 1.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Tom Mulligan, Superintendent; Board Members: Dr. Robert Arrol, Lucas Shonkwiler, Hannah Myers, Sue Stout, Craig Wesch, Jim Crane; Employees: Tom Mulligan, Ken Vogt and Nick Lindsey; Visitors: Mike Phillips and Jeff Thomas. 

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. 

Dr. Mulligan welcomed the district athletic director and baseball coaches. Dr. Mulligan informed the committee that he had invited the school staff to discuss the current state of the baseball field. He indicated that the school staff has concerns about not only the condition of the field but also concerns about the safety of the student athletes. Coach Phillips first described the biggest areas of concern with the field. Dr. Mulligan also updated the committee and a meeting he, Mr. Lindsey and Coach Phillips had with the Arcola City Administrator. He updated the committee on the current plan that the city has on upgrading the field. The committee then discussed potential alternatives such as partnering with the City and providing financial support and also the feasibility of building a new field. In the end, the committee asked that Dr. Mulligan set up a joint meeting on the school board building committee and the parks and recreation committee from the City of Arcola.

Dr. Mulligan then provided the committee with an update on the capital improvement fund financial situation. He also presented the capital improvement plan, which includes the projects projected for the next three years. The committee discussed several projects in detail with Ken Vogt providing input as the director of building and grounds. The committee is recommending to the full board to include elementary bathroom renovations and the high gym painting project as the projects to be included in the recent maintenance grant. The building committee meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
