City of Altamont City Council Met Jan. 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Council of the City of Altamont met in regular session at 6:00 pm in the Community Room of the Municipal Building. The following members were present: Mayor Jason Rippetoe; Commissioner Dan Milleville; Commissioner Todd Slingerland; Commissioner Mike Walker; Commissioner Tayler Polk. Also present – Carissa Sitki, Altamont News; Charles Mills, Effingham Daily News; Michael Tappendorf, Milano & Grunloh; Larry Taylor; Charles Pagel; Alan Heiens, Altamont Police Chief; and Sarah Stephen, City Clerk.

The Omnibus Vote Agenda comprised of prior meeting minutes and payment of bills, was approved on a motion by Commissioner Slingerland and seconded by Commissioner Milleville. Members voted as follows: Commissioner Milleville, yes; Commissioner Walker, yes; Commissioner Slingerland, yes; Commissioner Polk, yes; Mayor Rippetoe, yes. (Attachment 1)

Chief Heiens presented the December 2020 and Annual Police Activity & K-9 Reports. He established the activity was lower than 2019 due to a temporary reduction of officers and Covid-19.

Commissioner Slingerland reported the damaged fire hydrant located on East Division Street has been replaced. During the repair a broken valve created a boil order for East Meadows and Coon Creek. A sink hole in the alley near South St. Clair & Lincoln was repaired. Bid letting of the Rt 40/128 water main replacement is scheduled for February 04th.

Commissioner Walker reported the Equity installation was complete. Christmas lights were taken down. Some will need to be replaced before next year. Four poles have been marked for replacement.

Commissioner Milleville, Commissioner Polk and Mayor Rippetoe had nothing to report.

Council entered into Executive Session for the Purpose of Litigation ILCS 5/120 2 (c ) (11) on a motion by Commissioner Polk and seconded by Commissioner Milleville. Members voted as follows: Commissioner Milleville, yes; Commissioner Walker, yes; Commissioner Slingerland, yes; Commissioner Polk, yes; Mayor Rippetoe, yes.

No action was required as a result of Executive Session. Council discussed future actions to correct nuisance violations.

The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Commissioner Polk and seconded by Commissioner Slingerland. Members voted as follows: Commissioner Milleville, yes; Commissioner Walker, yes; Commissioner Slingerland, yes; Commissioner Polk, yes; Mayor Rippetoe, yes..
