Chicago (80,680 cases) and Cook County (65,472 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,962, while Cook County recorded 2,267 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 5,690,437, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 59,409 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 138,996 were male and 151,471 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,671, while female deaths stood at 4,025.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,168 Asians, 4,168 whites, 2,228 African-Americans, 1,745 Hispanics, and 172 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
