Chicago (69,022 cases) and Cook County (52,855 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,855, while Cook County recorded 2,160 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 3,740,191, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 42,723 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 103,698 were male and 113,921 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 4,258, while female deaths stood at 3,625.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,582 Asians, 3,582 whites, 2,119 African-Americans, 1,616 Hispanics, and 203 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
