Chicago (56,780 cases) and Cook County (41,512 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,724, while Cook County recorded 2,050 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 2,212,398, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 28,277 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 75,675 were male and 82,084 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,943, while female deaths stood at 3,341.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,247 Asians, 3,247 whites, 2,011 African-Americans, 1,507 Hispanics, and 178 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
