Chicago (50,996 cases) and Cook County (37,142 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 2,540, while Cook County recorded 1,938 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 1,428,841, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 40 to 49, with 24,449 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 65,508 were male and 70,451 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 3,688, while female deaths stood at 3,076.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 3,004 Asians, 3,004 whites, 1,892 African-Americans, 1,383 Hispanics, and 169 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
