Arcola School District #306 Building Committee met November 13

Meeting 06

Arcola School District #306 Building Committee met Nov. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Tom Mulligan, Superintendent; Board Members: Dr. Robert Arrol, Lucas Shonkwiler, Erica Thieman, Sue Stout, Craig Wesch, Jim Crane and Chad Strader; Visitors: Ken Vogt, Dave Porter, Angie Gentry, Mike Zeller and Ben Evelsizer

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm.

Mike Zellers from Graham and Hyde architects presented an update on the elementary school building addition and renovation project. He indicated they are making good progress in terms of drawings and that they are working closely with the construction manager on getting a closer idea on price. He indicated that they are somewhat concerned that the original project estimate is going to be low. He indicated they still have some work to do and that the estimates from the construction manager are somewhat premature because the specifications have not been completely defined.

He led a discussion with the building committee regarding possible items to include as alternate bids in order to give the board some flexibility on bid day. He suggested the playground work, the cafeteria flooring and possibly the painting in the hallways. The committee members shared their concerns about possible areas that may need to be cut. Mike Zellers indicated that the December Board meeting will be the time when they should have a solid idea on price. He would like to go to bid in early January to try and get competitive bids because it will be pretty early in the bid season.

Ben Evelsizer spoke from Poettker Construction. He indicated that they are working to refine project scope and lower cost without compromising quality. He also indicated they on target for project completion on the original schedule.

The building committee meeting temporarily adjourned at 7:00 pm.
