Arthur Community Unified School District 305 Board met Aug. 15.

The regular meeting of the Arthur Board of Education was called to order by President Jake Kamm at 6:00 pm on August 15, 2018 in the Arthur CUSD Unit Office with the following members and administrators present: Jon Day, Monica Green, Jake Kamm, Kristie Mechling, Ryan Nettles, Beth Wiley and administrators Kenny Schwengel, Steffanie Seegmiller, Brandon Stone, Sage Hale, Kristin Nall, Amanda Romine and Jared Vanausdoll. Ed Miller was absent. Visitors were also present.
Mr. Schwengel read a note from Michelle Schrock thanking the district for the flowers and kindness shown to her.
A motion was made by Beth Wiley seconded by Kristie Mechling to approve the consent agenda as presented. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Beth Wiley, seconded by Jon Day to approve the tentative FY19 budget. Upon roll all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
Mrs. Hale reported: Summer Help - I would like to thank Ken Munds and all the Arthur CUSD #305 custodians and summer crew for getting our building ready for school. The building looks amazing and we appreciate all the hard work they do! Welcome new teachers and staff! Thank You - A huge thank you to Marcia and the rest of our custodial crew for the great work they have done over the summer. The building looks amazing. Also a big thank you to the teachers that have been coming in and working in their rooms. The building looks like it is ready for kids! Grant Winners: Teachers have been busy writing grants and getting projects funded through Donors choose this summer. Congratulations to the following teachers! We are looking forward to a great 2018-2019 school year. Our theme this year is kindness. We will be doing different things around the school to promote kindness and help students learn to embrace differences and work together.
Mr. Stone reported: - Lovington Grade School Registration was held on August 2. Thanks to Mrs. Wildman, Ms. Voegel, and all other LGS staff members that chipped in to make this run as smoothly as it did. Enrollments (as of 8/9)- Pre K – 18, Kindergarten – 19, 1st - 25, 2nd – 12, 3rd – 17, 4th – 21, 5th - 15, 6th – 25, 7th – 12, 8th – 31, DDC-0 , TLC-2, Bridges-0, TOTAL = 197. Enrollment Notes
-PreK numbers are way down (do have some more screened and mid-year birthdays that will come) Lost typical to above average number over the summer. Did not gain the typical number we do each year. Thanks to and the maintenance and janitorial staff for making our building sparkle again. They have worked hard to provide students and community members with a building to be proud of. Mrs. Seegmiller reported: Registration was on Thursday and Friday, August 2nd and 3rd from 9 until 6 p.m. Enrollment: Freshmen 95, Sophomores 75, Juniors 80, Seniors 74, Total: 324
8 attending Bridges, 3 @ TLC; 4 Life Academy; 1 IL School for Visually Impaired. Mrs. Hart held the Freshman Icebreaker on Tuesday, August 7th. We had about 50 students attend. CEO class will begin on August 20th. A special thanks to our Maintenance Crew. the building looks fantastic! Biology room is just waiting on desk tops for the lab tables, rearranging of teachers’ rooms, turning closets into offices and offices into classrooms, moving this from here to there, carrying out loads of ca! They are amazing and everything looks great! Back to School Assembly, hosting Coach Underwood, U of I Men's Basketball Coach will be here to speak about grit and taking advantage of new opportunities! All are welcome 8:15 - 9:00. (Shhh. faculty won’t know until Monday!) Upcoming Dates: High School Open House Monday, August20th6p.m.to7p.m.
Mr. Vanausdoll reported: Football: 38 on the squad Red/Gold on 8/17, Volleyball – 21 signed up – Red/Gold on 8/21 at 6:00, Soccer – 24 players – 1st match 8/21 @ Georgetown, Cross Country – 7 on team 1 girls/6 boys. First meet on 8/23 @ Sullivan, Golf – 6 members from ALAH – First match 8/20 @ Tuscola Marching Band – 62 total, JH Boys Basketball Numbers: 2016-2017 - 34 20 8th Graders, 2017-2018 - 38 23 7th graders, JH Girls Volleyball 2016-2017 – 28, 2017-2018 – 32. Mrs. Romine reported on Technology: Lunch/School Fees EZSchoolPay, 137 users as of today, 45 transactions. Over $6000 paid online as of today for registration fees, dual credit, lunch accounts, tech fees.
Mr. Schwengel reported: Update on summer projects - HS Roof - Progress but slow. According to bid documents, the deadline was Aug. 12th. Contractor indicates they will be done Aug. 14th. It now looks like 5 more days Upchurch says likely 7-8. HS Biology room - Hope to have new lab tabletops by Aug. 13-14. LGS drive - Bid from Walker Asphalt, Sullivan came in about $15K cheaper. Intended to start on Tuesday.until it rained! New awnings on east side of high school - Bernardi completed the awnings over four doors at the high school. The one over the cafeteria door is obviously new, but the other three are replacements.
A motion was made by Beth Wiley, seconded by Jon Day to enter executive session at 6:44 pm under the Open Meetings Act for the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2 ( c )(1). All members present voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Beth Wiley seconded by Jon Day to leave executive session at 7:00 pm. All voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Jon Day, seconded by Ryan Nettles to accept executive session minutes as read in executive session. Upon roll, all members voted yea. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ryan Nettles seconded by Monica Green to approve the personnel report as presented which includes: Recommend board hire: Brittany Creek as AGS pre-k teacher, Karen Karch as part time math instructional coach, Guy Bates as ALAH math teacher, Leslie Davis as AGS classroom aide, Michael Haste as boys JH basketball coach, Shandon Hershberger as boys JH assistant basketball coach, Jake Keown as HS scholastic bowl head coach, Bryce Cherry as HS assistant scholastic bowl coach, Amy Hooten as Jr class sponsor, Sam Binion as AHGS student council sponsor, Renee Brown as AHGS concession manager. Resignations: Lynn Marner AGS secretary effective June 15, 2019, Bryton Ragon HS boys track coach, Megan Brown JH girls volleyball coach. Upon roll, all members present voted yea. Motion carried.
