City of Newton Jasper Economic Development Inc. (JEDI) Board met June 6.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

Attending: Scott Bierman, Scott Bloomberg, Ron Heltsley, Mark Bolander, Brett Lessley, Larry Brooks, Andrew Johnson, Beth Probst, Linda Huth, Jason Warfel, Doug Wedel, Louis Ochs, Tom Brown, James Patrick, Casey Tibbs, Mindy Hartke, Madeline Zuber and Ken Larimore


1. Call to order, Ken Larimore.

2. Request amendments to the agenda. Motion to approve by Bloomberg, second by Brooks, approved.

3. Motion to approve previous meeting minutes made by Bloomberg, second by Brooks, motion passed.

4. Guest Speaker

James Patrick, Executive Director

South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission.

James presented an update of available programs the commission can offer-Planning, Mapping, Loans, Grants, etc.

5. Community marketing program-Casey Tibbs presented the marketing that Image Squared Marketing is doing for the Jasper group.

6. JEDI assistant- Ken introduced Madeline Zuber that will be updating the

www.jaspercountyillinois.org website and record keeping.

7. Monthly Updates

a. Ken Larimore, CED Extension Educator i. TIF-3 projects approved downtown. The 2 projects in the industrial park are still pending. Looks like the Alco building will be sold to an exciting new business.

ii. EZ- One application has been approved in Ste. Marie and an application is pending with Dynegy. We all need to promote the EZ and

TIF tools to any potential contacts.

b. Mark Bolander, Mayor of Newton

i. Mark said the City has completed 2 surveys. One for the Department of Urban and Regional Planning for comprehensive plan updates and another one as part of another DCEO Housing Rehab grant application.

ii. Mark said the Strawberry Fest was a big success and appreciated everyone’s hard work in making it happen.

iii. The “River Walk” phase 4 of Eagle Trails is under design and we will be having some public meetings soon.

c. Ron Heltsley, Jasper County Board Chairman

i. Mike Hall will now be serving on the SCIRPDC board.

ii. Ron updated the ATV permit program.

iii. The Engineer applied for a Safety Grant.

iv. The county audit is completed.

d. Mr. Johnson, Superintendent of Schools

i. Andy discussed his first year and future goals.

ii. Discussed lack of state funding.

iii. Discussed need for new school buses and the costs.

iv. He said they are improving the school security system.

8. Comments from those attending the meeting. None.

9. Other

10. Motion to close meeting made by Scott Bloomberg, second by Ron Heltsley, and motion passed.
