Paris Community Unit School District 4 Board met May 9. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

                The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Community Unit School District


No. 4, Edgar County, was held on May 9, 2018 at 6:30 P.M. in the workroom of Crestwood

School, Paris, Illinois. Those present were Jarrod Dyer, Jim Blue, Kit Kirby, Keith

Trogdon, Paul Porter, Superintendent Danette Young, and Principal Dan Lynch. Guests

were Josh McCarty, and Ty, Steve, and Kara Jones.

               Motion by Kirby, seconded by Porter to approve minutes of the April 11, 2018

regular board meeting. Trogdon, aye; Kirby, aye; Blue, aye; Porter, aye; Dyer, aye. 5 ayes.

No nays. Motion carried

               Motion by Dyer, seconded by Kirby to approve current bills. Kirby, aye; Blue, aye;

Dyer, aye; Porter, aye; Trogdon, aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

Ty Jones was recognized as the State Geography Bee winner.

               Motion by Kirby, seconded by Porter authorizing product bids for milk and bread

for the 2018-2019 school year. Porter, aye; Blue, aye; Dyer, aye; Kirby, aye; Trogdon,

aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Porter, seconded by Dyer to approve final calendar for the 2017-2018

school year. Porter, aye; Blue, aye; Trogdon, aye; Dyer aye; Kirby, aye. 5 ayes. No

nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Porter, seconded by Dyer to award the treasurer’s bond in the amount

of $1,500,000 to Nixon Insurance Agency (Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of

America) at a cost of $1,415.00. Blue, aye; Trogdon, aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer,

aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Kirby, seconded by Dyer to approve fence bid from Double Bee Fence

Co. in the amount of $3,609. Kirby, aye; Trogdon, aye; Dyer, aye; Blue, aye; Porter, aye.

5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Porter seconded by Kirby to approve new water main installation bid

from Lankster and Gore in the amount of $24,127. Blue, aye; Trogdon, aye; Dyer, aye;

Kirby, aye; Porter, aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

Table motion to approve Student Safety and Protection Resolution to submit to

the Illinois school Board Association.

               Motion by Blue, seconded by Porter to enter executive session at 7:14 P.M. to

discuss appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal

of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including

hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or

against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. (5 ILCS 120/2(c) (1).

carried.

               Motion by Blue, seconded by Porter to exit executive session at 8:46 P.M.

carried.

               Motion by Porter, seconded by Trogdon to accept the resignation of Sara Pinnell

as a teacher effective at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school year. Blue, aye;

Trogdon, aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

                Motion by Kirby, seconded by Porter to accept the resignation of Elizabeth

Barrett as a special education teacher effective at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school

year. Blue, aye; Trogdon, aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye. 5 ayes. No nays.

Motion carried.

               Motion by Porter, seconded by Kirby to accept the resignation of Christy Pinkston

as a teacher and coach effective at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school year. Blue,

aye; Trogdon, aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Dyer, seconded by Porter to accept the resignation of Cindy Spencer as

reading specialist at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school year. Blue, aye; Trogdon,

aye; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Dyer, seconded by Porter to accept the resignation of Vince Porter as

boys’ basketball coach at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 school year. Blue, aye;

Trogdon, nay; Porter, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye. 4 ayes. 1 nay. Motion carried

               Motion by Kirby, seconded by Trogdon to hire Lynsey Gosnell as an elementary

teacher for the 2018-2019 school year pending successful completion of background

check. Trogdon, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye; Blue, aye; Porter, aye. 5 ayes. No nays.

Motion carried.

              Motion by Kirby, seconded by Dyer to hire Haley Sanders as an early childhood

teacher for the 2018-2019 school year pending successful completion of background

check. Trogdon, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye; Blue, aye; Porter, aye. 5 ayes. No nays.

Motion carried.

               Motion by Porter, seconded by Trogdon to hire Carrie Witmer as a special

education teacher for the 2018-2019 school year pending successful completion of

background check. Trogdon, aye; Kirby, aye; Dyer, aye; Blue, aye; Porter, aye. 5 ayes.

No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Dyer, seconded by Porter to hire Deb Dougherty and Melissa White as

part-time summer maintenance at the hourly rate of $11.50. Trogdon, aye; Kirby, aye;

Dyer, aye; Blue, aye; Porter, aye. 5 ayes. No nays. Motion carried.

               Motion by Porter seconded by Trogdon to approve agreement with CTU for a

three year contract beginning with 2018-2019 school year and extending through 2020-

2021. Kirby, aye; Trogdon, aye; Blue, aye; Dyer, aye; Porter, aye. 5 ayes. No nays.

Motion carried.

               Motion by Blue, seconded by Porter to adjourn the meeting at 9:06 P.M. Blue,
